For My Heteronormative Parents
This piece turns my parent’s underlying heteronormative values they push upon me into a physical object in an effort to satirically criticize those values.
This red box is designed to resemble a fire safety box for emergency usage that usually contain fire axes, blankets, or extinguishers. They usually are labelled “In Case of Emergency, Break Glass”. In the case of this piece, parents in a heterosexual marriage are meant to break open the glass and pop confetti cannons in celebration of their daughter being straight.
